Private Sydney Armstrong

We have few details about Private Sydney Armstrong of the Parachute Regiment who died in 1945 aged 29. He was married and lived in the old cottage in Chapel Lane (now known as Chantry House) which then was a pub called the Old King’s Arms. His body was never recovered but he is remembered on the Groesbeek memorial in the Netherlands and of course here in Stathern on the Memorial Role of Honour. He was probably killed as the Allied army advance through the Netherlands and Belgium after their victory in Normandy.
